The Academy for Leadership Development

The Academy for Leadership Development seeks to provide curricular and co-curricular experiences that facilitate student discovery of their God-given talents and responsibility to lead others in a journey toward a more just and humane world. We utilize our four pillars of leadership (social identity, responsibility, active engagement & integrity) to help support the holistic development of our students; more specifically, we offer leadership development opportunities for students to further hone their leadership skills.

Please consider giving to help support our dynamic leadership development portfolio, which includes the following programs and initiatives:

  • Lone Star (LeaderShape) Institute: a 6-day immersion leadership development experience where students grapple with the notion of creating a just, thriving, caring world where everyone lives with integrity, and has a healthy disregard for the impossible.
  • EMERGE Leadership Retreat: An overnight retreat for freshmen and sophomore students who want to learn more about leadership and develop their own leadership philosophy.
  • Christian Leadership Institute: a 4-day leadership experience for rising seniors in high school. During this summer camp, the participants get the opportunity to live on Baylor’s campus and interact with Baylor students who are tasked with leading meaningful activities and conversations related to Christian leadership in an ever-changing world.
  • ALD Speaker Series: The Academy for Leadership Development brings local, national, and international speakers to campus to introduce students to the variety and complexity of leadership needs in contemporary society. Presenters in the series identify a pressing social issue and discuss how they have worked to address that issue in their community. The series is open to the public.
  • Peer Leader Program: The Peer Leader Program provides advanced leadership opportunities for students who want to help guide, educate, support and teach Baylor students through building meaningful and educative relationships with them.
  • Men of Color Initiative: This state-wide collaboration focuses on improving Hispanic and African American male student success across the state of Texas.
  • Carr P. Collins Scholars: The Carr P. Collins Scholars program was established to recruit, retain, support and recognize promising student-leaders enrolled at Baylor.
  • LEAD LLC: The Leadership Living Learning Center (LEAD LLC) is a residential experience that challenges and equips students to live a more meaningful life, and to influence others to make a positive impact on their world. LEAD cultivates students' leadership ability by preparing them for and engaging them in hands-on experiences and by providing continuous feedback and reflection on their leadership development.
