Steppin Out / Community Engagement & Service

Community Engagement and Service (CES) provides a campus-wide infrastructure for coordinating, supporting and advancing informed community engagement among students with the intention of leveraging the university's collective influence toward promoting positive social change. To that end, we offer a robust programming portfolio for members of the Baylor community who are interested in civic engagement and community service opportunities. Please consider donating to help support the following CES Initiatives:

  • Steppin’ Out: A day of service for members of the Baylor community who are interested in providing service to the Greater Waco community. A student committee, led by the Coordinator of Community Service, work to plan this event each fall and spring semester.

  • Santa’s Workshop: An annual event that invites hundreds of children (ages 3-5) from the Greater Waco area to Baylor University to take part in a Christmas celebration!  This event gives children the opportunity to spend time with the Baylor community, students and Santa and Mrs. Claus! Children attending the event will also receive lunch and a Christmas gift.

  • Community Garden: Research of McLennan County illustrating the daily battle with food insecurity shows that 20.7% of people live in food-insecure homes. Additionally, nearly 20% of Baylor students also struggle with food insecurity, meaning they reliable access o nutritious food. The first tenet of Campus Kitchen's mission is to strengthen bodies by using existing resources to meet hunger and nutritious needs in our community. This semester we turn our attention on transforming the Baylor Community Garden into a space that allows Campus Kitchen to best meet the needs of our neighbors.

  • Campus Kitchen Baylor University (CKBU): As one of two Campus Kitchens currently established in the state of Texas, CKBU is proud to work alongside other schools, organizations, and individuals to make a difference in the fight against hunger and food insecurity. CKBU has student teams that recover food from on-campus dining halls and local restaurants, harvest fresh produce from the Campus Kitchen Community Garden, and prepare and deliver nutritious meals to local non-profits.
