Community Engagement and Service (CES) provides a campus-wide infrastructure for coordinating, supporting and advancing informed community engagement among students with the intention of leveraging the university's collective influence toward promoting positive social change. To that end, we offer a robust programming portfolio for members of the Baylor community who are interested in civic engagement and community service opportunities. Please consider donating to help support the following CES Initiatives:
- 1st Step: A day of service designed to introduce first-year (undergraduate, graduate and transfer) students to service opportunities in our local Waco community.
- Steppin’ Out: A day of service for members of the Baylor community who are interested in providing service to the Greater Waco community. A student committee, led by the Coordinator of Community Service, work to plan this event each fall and spring semester.
- Santa’s Workshop: An annual event that invites hundreds of children (ages 3-5) from the Greater Waco area to Baylor University to take part in a Christmas celebration! This event gives children the opportunity to spend time with the Baylor community, students and Santa and Mrs. Claus! Children attending the event will also receive lunch and a Christmas gift.
- Baylor Buddies: A partnership between Baylor University and Communities In School with Baylor students serving as mentors to children in the Waco Independent School District. Children range in age from early elementary school through middle school.
- Public Deliberation Initiative (PDI): PDI involves the best parts of dialogue (conversation) and debate (argumentation) to offer an experience where participants can learn from one another by talking through different perspectives and approaches to local and global issues and working together to come up with community action steps.
- Campus Kitchen Baylor University (CKBU): As one of two Campus Kitchens currently established in the state of Texas, CKBU is proud to work alongside other schools, organizations, and individuals to make a difference in the fight against hunger and food insecurity. CKBU has student teams that recover food from on-campus dining halls and local restaurants, harvest fresh produce from the Campus Kitchen Community Garden, and prepare and deliver nutritious meals to local non-profits.
