Who we are: The Baylor University Department of Theatre Arts has been ranked among the top theatre training programs in the nation and consists of a vibrant community of 130 undergraduates, 6 graduate students, 31 faculty/staff artists, scholars and technicians. Baylor Theatre stands at the intersection of artistic expression, intellectual curiosity, active faith, and social engagement. We believe that artists are the conscience of a society and the prophetic storytellers that examine our past, challenge or present, and push us toward a more enlightened future.
Why we need your support: Baylor Theatre has been fortunate to have grown exponentially over the last two decades—both student and faculty/staff populations in the department have about tripled. Indeed, the department has been so blessed that we have been forced to cap our enrollment and limit admissions to maintain the integrity of the program and the department culture we hold so dear. But capping our enrollment has created the need to be even more competitive on a national scale. If Baylor Theatre is to continue to lead the nation in artistic excellence informed by faith, then we must have nationally competitive scholarships. We are no longer merely a parochial drama department, but we are competing with the best theatre training programs nation-wide, many of whom have enormous scholarship funds.
How your gift will help: Quite simply, we need larger scholarships and more of them! Scholarships of significant size help us bring the most promising talent to Baylor University—talent from a wide variety of geographical areas, ethnic backgrounds, cultural perspectives, and with a diversity of experience and skill that makes us a stronger department which can more effectively reflect the stories of our contemporary society.
