Rapidly changing communication platforms make it essential that faculty in the Journalism, Public Relations and New Media department add a Social Media Engagement and Evaluation Suite to our classrooms. The suite – a mix between industry technology and a media lab – would provide opportunities for examining cross platform social data, analyzing engagements and identifying actionable insights and prepare students for cutting-edge jobs in a wide range of industries. Graduate students and faculty could utilize the data, software and hardware to conduct research. To begin development of this lab we would like to purchase two 80” social media data screens for instruction and live stream of social media data and other content.
Your gift during Baylor Giving Day will help us in achieving this first phase goal. Down the line we will add two 70-inch cable news screens and full video-conferencing in the classroom to allow students to work with agencies and interact with guest speakers.
Dr. Sara Stone, chair of the department, has created a $1,200 challenge, and donors can give to either the public relations or journalism excellence funds.
