A Long, Long Way: A Program on Race, Film, and Reconciliation

A Long, Long Way: A National Program on Race, Film, and Reconciliation

Washington National Cathedral

February 16-18, 2018

Co-sponsored by Baylor University, Washington National Cathedral, and the Austin Film Festival

Before his death in 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. remarked that while the nation had come “a long, long way” in its quest for racial justice, it still had a long, long way to go, and these words still ring true even now as we prepare to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s death next spring. “A Long, Long Way” will gather writers, film makers, critics, theologians, historians, and pastors to explore the intersection of film and culture and to consider the work of racial reconciliation at the symbolic spiritual heart of the nation, Washington National Cathedral. Through film screenings, discussions, and teaching sessions on race and film, preaching on race, and racial reconciliation, attendees will both participate in a national celebration of the life and work of Dr. King during Black History Month, and elevate a national conversation on what divides us—and how we are meant to toil together.
