Michael Anderson Wood Endowed Scholarship in Finance & Accounting

Honor the Life of Michael Anderson Wood

In Memory of Michael Anderson Wood

The Michael Anderson Wood Endowed Scholarship in Finance and Accounting was established by Randy M. and Edna H. Wood of Waco, Texas, in memory of their son, Michael.

Michael Wood was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on May 8, 1979, to Randy and Edna Wood and sister Lindsey. His family moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma, in November 1980. In kindergarten, he quickly made friends and would ride his bicycle around the neighborhood visiting them and their families. He had an inquisitive mind and enjoyed exploring along the creek behind their home, always with an entourage in tow. His family moved to Waco, Texas, in June 1985 for his father to teach at Baylor University, but his zest for life did not change. He was the new kid on the block, but young Michael did not know it. He was outgoing and friends quickly followed. He had a love of all sports and was an active member of the Youth Group at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church where he participated in many church activities, camps, and several mission trips. He loved his summers at Sky Ranch where he served as a camp counselor and was able to lead and enrich the lives of young people.

Michael attended Baylor University where he met the love of his life, Karmen Godfrey. They were married on September 20, 2008, in Waco. They were both involved in the Waco and Baylor communities and enjoyed volunteering for various organizations. Whether it was on a golf course, hunting, tailgating before a Baylor football game, or just grilling in the backyard, Michael loved spending his free time surrounded by family and friends. He was an avid golfer with two holes in one. His love for golf and Baylor sports knew no boundaries.

He was Senior Loan Officer at 1st University Credit Union, Waco, Texas, and attended the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Management School where his classmates elected him as Treasurer of the Class of 2018. Michael had a can-do attitude with a very welcoming presence. He embraced individual differences in people, always encouraging others to be their best.

Michael had an infectious sense of humor with an infamous laugh and had a heart of pure gold and a magnetic personality to which everyone gravitated. He lived a life filled with joy and enthusiasm and passed away on September 23, 2016. He holds a treasured place in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
