A Message from Kristen Hankins, Director of Spirit and Traditions
The Baylor Spirit program is proud to celebrate 100 years of spirit in 2021! Baylor Spirit is committed to the pursuit of excellence, and we strive to honor those that have exemplified the Baylor spirit in everything we do.
Baylor Spirit began in 1920 as the Yell Leader Team and later transformed into the Co-ed Yell Leaders in 1968. As the University continued to grow, we continued to unify its fan base. In 1975, Songleaders Dance was established. Steeped in tradition, the Bears looked to Spirit to add a mascot. In 1981, Bruiser joined the family. Our evolution is remarkable and in 2004, we recognized an opportunity to grow our foundation with the addition of the All-Girl Yell Leaders 2004. The final piece to our outstanding history was the addition of Marigold in 2017. Each of our alumni has played an extraordinary part in the growth of Baylor Spirit.
Today, we proudly don the Green & Gold on the sidelines and in the community. When we aren’t supporting the Bears’ 19 athletic programs, we are active in the Waco area, resonating pride with the Baylor faithful. We believe service is the ultimate form of leadership and it is the commitment to our Christian faith that drives us.
As ambassadors to Baylor University and Baylor Athletics, we have a unique opportunity to generate excitement, passion, and faith about our institution. What started as an on-campus mission in 1920, has transformed into a global campaign. With new opportunities on the horizon, our mission remains the same: to grow in faith, excellence, and service to our community. We want to provide our student-athletes with a unique and lasting experience, but we can’t do that without you.
In our 100th year, it is our goal to establish the Baylor Alumni Spirit Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship will provide the funds to alleviate the substantial cost of being a Baylor University student. By donating to the endowed scholarship fund, you make a lasting impact. Your donation helps the next generation of Baylor Spirit experience what we all love about Baylor. We are unified as one, 100 years strong.
About this Scholarship
The Baylor Alumni Spirit Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to students attending Baylor University, Waco, Texas, with preference given to students participating in Baylor Spirit squads. The committee will award each scholarship based on merit & need.
