The Goebel Story
Perhaps unknown to most, great design is being produced within the walls of the historic Goebel Building on the Baylor campus. In 2012, our growing Human Sciences and Design Department (then Family and Consumer Sciences) expanded to this vintage location near the center of campus. The building houses classroom and studio spaces, faculty offices, research labs, textile, and digital fabrication labs, and the material resource room.
While our students are learning about contemporary interiors designed to improve the well-being of occupants, and applying innovative materials to their project solutions, they are unfortunately doing so within a building that communicates the opposite. Goebel has not had any significant-finish improvements for roughly 30 years, and currently displays SEVEN different flooring types! We want to flip the narrative and need your help to do so.
Off to a Good Start
Recently, Interface Flooring https://www.interface.com/US/en-US/homepage donated 75 yards of flooring materials, which allowed us to KICK-START some much-needed improvements over the 2020 Winter Break. The impact has been tremendous! Our current students are thrilled with the early results and have commented that Goebel is starting to look like a real design studio! We love the branding our new “Architectural Plans” carpet pattern brings to our space.
How Can I Help?
We are glad you asked. We are not done! In fact, we’ve just scratched the surface and we need your help to finish things up! We are asking loyal alumni, friends, and family of our interior design and apparel programs to buy a few yards of carpet this Spring so that by the time our next class of students arrives in the Fall, our Goebel structure will be transformed into a VIBRANT environment for inspired learning and creative problem-solving!
