In honor of Drs. Preston and Genie Dyer’s years of service, and in celebration of 50 Years of Social Work Education at Baylor, the Garland School of Social Work has set a goal of $50,000 for the Preston and Genie Dyer Endowed Scholarship. Your gift will help us reach that goal, and increase scholarship support for students majoring in social work.
Dr. Preston Dyer, BA ’60, and his wife, Dr. Genie Dyer, BA ’59, came to Baylor in 1969 to develop the undergraduate social work program, then housed within the sociology department. The program grew into a separate department and eventually into a distinct academic unit in the 40 years Dr. Preston Dyer served full-time as professor, program director and founding chair.
During their many years at Baylor, one of their most popular classes was the Marriage and Family class, which they taught together for 16 years. Now a professor emeritus, Dr. Preston Dyer continues to teach adjunct classes and serve the school that he shaped during his distinguished tenure.
